DEV BLOG #6: More Freedom, a New Name & an Even Better BokBok

The BokBok team has been hard at work again this week to improve your experience and make the app even smoother and more enjoyable. Here’s what’s new — and why it matters:

📍 Location: You're in Control!

Privacy matters — so now you have more say in how and when your location is used.
All main features — video chat, messaging, and settings — work without location access.

Curious who’s nearby?
We’ll ask clearly and transparently before using your location, with a full explanation of why we need it and what we do (or don’t do) with it.
👉 Your location is never shown publicly. You choose when to turn it on.

📝 A New Name (for Legal Reasons)

You might’ve noticed we no longer use the word "Swipe."
Why? Tinder contacted us — “Swipe” is a registered trademark.
We didn’t know, but we respect the rules and acted quickly.

From now on, our full name is:
“BokBok: Chat, Video Date, Meet”

Same heart, same mission — just a new name.
➡️ More authenticity. More fun. More real connections.

⚙️ Technical Improvements

On Android, we’ve reduced the app size by building our own version of ffmpeg (the video-processing library we use).
Result:

Faster downloads
More space for your video messages and memories

We’re working on the same optimization for iOS — coming soon!

✨ Small Fixes & Polishes

Alongside the big changes, we’ve squashed a few bugs and polished some details to make BokBok even nicer to use.
