Remember when things used to be simple? You liked someone, you asked them out for coffee, maybe a movie, maybe a kiss. Today? First you have to survive endless swiping, vague texts, and “situationships” that not even the people in them can explain.

At BokBok, we know modern dating can be seriously confusing. We can’t change how people behave, but we can help you understand what’s out there—so you’re not left blindsided. And so you can at least tell when something weird is going on, because trust us, sometimes it’s really not your fault.

That’s why we’ve put together a dictionary that translates all those strange terms you keep hearing on TikTok or seeing in texts—but no one’s ever actually explained to you.

👻 Ghosting
The most infamous—and cruelest—move in modern dating. You’re texting, maybe even met up, everything seems great… and then? Silence. They vanish without a word, like a ghost. No explanation, no message. Just emptiness—and you, staring at your phone with a big fat question mark.

😵 Situationship
Are you in a relationship? Not really. Just friends? Definitely not. Welcome to the emotional limbo known as a situationship—you hang out, hook up, share intimate moments… but there are no labels, no commitments, and no talk about the future. It’s complicated.

Rizz
Short for “charisma.” That magnetic charm some people just have. Someone with rizz knows how to flirt, how to talk, how to make you feel like the only person in the room. Whether it’s natural or learned, it’s irresistible.

💣 Love Bombing
At first, it’s a fairy tale—gifts, compliments, constant attention. You feel swept off your feet. Then, just as fast, it all stops. Love bombing is a manipulative tactic meant to get you attached quickly with over-the-top affection, often as a setup for a toxic relationship.

🍞 Breadcrumbing
Dropping “crumbs” of attention—just enough to keep you interested, but with no real intention of making things serious. A like on Instagram, a reply to your story after a week of silence, a casual “Hey, what’s up?” text. Frustrating, right?

🌀 Gaslighting
They mess up, you call them out—and somehow you’re the crazy one. “I never said that.” “You’re imagining things.” If you’re constantly second-guessing your reality, you might be getting gaslit. And no, it’s not in your head.

🪑 Benching
You’re not the one, but they don’t want to let you go either. You’re kept “on the bench”—just in case. While they explore other options, you’re left waiting for your chance to finally be in the game.

🪐 Orbiting
They stop talking to you, but still watch all your stories, like your photos, maybe even comment. They’re not interested in connecting—but they do want you to know they’re still around.

📸 Soft Launch
You post a photo with someone—but it’s just a silhouette, a hand, a wine glass across the table. It’s the teaser trailer of relationships: not quite public, not quite private. A “maybe I’m seeing someone” kind of move.

❄️ Cuffing Season
That time of year—fall and winter—when people suddenly crave cozy relationships, often short-term. Come spring, everyone starts “uncuffing” and going solo again.

🪳 Roaching
You think you’re exclusive—but turns out, you’re one of many. Like cockroaches: if you see one, there are probably a dozen more you don’t. Gross.

🫙 Pocketing (aka Stashing)
You’re dating, but they never introduce you to their friends, never post about you, and avoid going out in public together. You’re being hidden—kept in their “pocket,” out of sight.

🎭 Wokefishing
They pretend to care about feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, climate change—whatever values matter to you. But it’s just an act to win you over. Behind the scenes? Total opposite.

🟤 Beige Flags
Not exactly red flags. Not green ones either. Just… beige. Like the guy whose hobby is “watching Netflix.” Or the girl who replies with “haha lol” and nothing else. Not a dealbreaker, just painfully dull.

🧟 Zombieing
They ghosted you months ago—then suddenly rise from the dead with a “Hey, how’ve you been?” Like a bad horror movie, only more annoying.

📎 Paperclipping
They pop up just to remind you they exist. Not to rekindle the flame, but to boost their ego. Think: “You still care about me, right?” Yep—emotional manipulation, level 100.

☀️ Freckling
A summer fling. Fun, hot, and full of sparks—but like freckles, it fades when the cold rolls in. Short-lived, no strings attached.

If you’ve read all this and thought, “WTF, is this stuff actually real?”—you’re not alone. Modern dating can feel like an escape room with no exit, just more emotional damage.

That’s why at BokBok, we don’t pretend to fix everything. We can’t change people. But we can help you understand what you’re walking into—so you can recognize the signs, and stop blaming yourself for things that aren’t your fault.

Because here, there are no filters, no games, no endless small talk that leads nowhere. Just you, a camera, and someone looking for a real connection—just like you.

Sound refreshing? You know where to find us. 😉
